A good kitchen should be designed according to the user's personal habits and needs. Design should adapt to people's lives, rather than the other way around. From the cooking process, washing, chopping, cooking and cleaning, the four steps cannot be simpler at first glance. However, in practice, you may find many problems:

What is the most convenient way from getting vegetables to washing them? How to design the layout to avoid crowding? How to set the proper height of cooking counter so that we don’t shrug when cooking? Only those who have been busy cooking in the kitchen can experience these details.



No wonder cooking is tiring, this is how you design a reasonable kitchen moving route.


In the kitchen, the moving route from one functional zone to another is referred to as the kitchen moving route. For example, taking original materials of food from the refrigerator to the sink for cleaning is a moving route. Kitchen moving route must follow the reasonable cooking process, so that the whole cooking process will be smoother.
Before designing the moving route, we must first understand the cooking process: taking the original materials of food from the refrigerator - washing in the cleaning area – taking them to the preparation area after washing - then taking them to the cooking area for cooking - finally stir-frying and dishing them out - washing the dishes after dining.

After the process is clear, we can design different moving routes according to the different layouts at our own kitchen. Taking the most common line-style and L-style for example:


1.Line-style kitchen moving route


For a slender, long kitchen, as long as the functional area can be arranged according to reasonable steps and one moving route can run through the entire cooking process, it will be convenient for sure.



2.L-style kitchen moving route


L-style kitchen layout is centered at the corner of wall and the moving route expands in both directions, making it the most space efficient layout design. When all kitchen activities are performed on the triangle moving route, you just need to turn around to get whatever you need when cooking, hence the efficiency is improved.




Give each area a reason to fall for.


Three major kitchen operations: washing, chopping and stir-frying. Regardless of which moving route design your kitchen have, it can be roughly divide into four areas: the washing and cleaning area, the cooking area, the preparation area and the storage area. Let's talk about the design points that make several areas more convenient.

 


1.Length of the preparation area, just fine in distance


Between the sink and cooktop, there will generally be certain spare preparation space for chopping up vegetables on the chopping board and making dough, etc.
If the length of this area is less than 11.81 inch, only a plate can be fit in, then and there is basically no space for chopping up vegetables. It is recommended that the length should be controlled at about 23.62 inch - 31.49 inch at the beginning of design. In this way, the chopping board can fit in while it won’t be too far away and make the entire countertop out of order.


2.Cooking area


 (1) The mounting height of range hood is crucial


There are two main players in the cooking area: the cooktop and the range hood. The position of cooktop and the mounting height of range hood are related to whether the fume extraction is efficient. If it is not properly considered, choking fumes will diffuse in the entire house and your life.
The position of cooktop and the exhaust port of public flue should be designed on the same side to reduce the turn of pipe, which is conducive to the discharge of fumes.
The upper and lower distances of the cooktop and range hood should be well controlled. After hundreds of experiments and a lot of practice, FOTILE’s experts have found that the height of 22.83 inches from the cooktop is a critical point for fumes from just rising to large-scale diffusion. This is the “Golden fume control area”. Fume extraction at this position can ensure the strongest fume grabbing power.

Make sure that the air inlet of the hood is set at a height of 22.83 inch from the cooktop panel. The lowest end of FOTILE top suction type intelligent W range hood is 25.59 inch ~ 29.53 inch from the cooktop; FOTILE side suction type W range hood hook is 29.53 inch ~ 31.5 inch from the cooktop panel, and the long oil cup bottom of range hood (i.e. the lowest end of range hood) is 13.39 inch ~ 15.35 inch from the cooktop panel.


 (2) Splash proof plate design


You may not have heard of the splash proof plate, but you must have seen it. The so-called splash proof plate (splash proof wall) mostly refers to the wall in front of the cooktop, hence the more correct name is "Easy-to-clean board for oil splash and contamination"

When decorating the kitchen, it is easy to overlook the design of splash proof plate, which may be replaced by ordinary tiles. However, due to proximity to the cooktop, this area is subject to high temperature baking and oil stains for a long time. Hence over time, cracks begin to appear on the wall around the cooktop, which particularly affect the appearance; and oil stains have penetrated into the cracks, making it extremely difficult to clean.


Therefore, it is especially important to design a high temperature proof and easy-to-clean splash proof plate during decoration.


Withstand thermal expansion and contraction: Ordinary ceramic tiles are generally high temperature resistant, but they may not necessarily be able to withstand the "expansion caused by heat and contraction caused by cold". It is hot when the fire is on and cold when the fire is off, which is repeated like a test. Just as the ceramic tiles at the flue outlet that are prone to cracking, the tiles in this place are often prone to cracks for the same reason.

Easy to clean: This requires the surface of splash board to be smooth and the material to be easy to clean. Otherwise, you may have to face the oil stain trouble every day later on. You cannot ignore this issue before design!


There are several mainstream materials available on the market that can be used for splash proof wall:
Tiles: One of the most common materials.
Mosaic: Mosaic can be referred to as a variant of tile. The ultimate fragmented beauty can be achieved through mosaic. It fears no high temperatures or expansion caused by heat and contraction caused by cold. However, the problem is that it has too many crevices. Don’t try it unless you can use beauty joint agent with superb paving technique.
Glass: The splash proof plate made of glass also has excellent quality and reasonable price, but the effect is far better than the tile. In addition to improving the brightness, it can also enlarge the visual area of space. It is one of the most popular choices other than tiles.
The all-matching mirror baffle goes along well with all basic colors (black). However, as mirror can easily collect oil stains and fingerprints, it is very likely to be too dirty to show any image after being surrounded by fumes for a long time.
Stainless steel: Stainless steel splash proof plate has a smooth surface and fears no cracking, which can perfectly meet requirements of the cooktop area. You just need to pay attention to the maintenance in the future and avoid leaving any scratch marks on it. Most importantly, stainless steel baffle can seamlessly dock the sink and cooktop counter, say bye to silicone strips that are doomed to go moldy over time, and create a truly integrated kitchen.
